Position Overview
The merchandiser position will be responsible for performing commodity trading, risk management and customer development activities necessary for the success of Harvestone Low Carbon Partners (HLCP). This will involve merchandising physical commodities including corn, DDGs and ethanol, executing futures/options trades to manage margins, analyzing local and global market conditions and building strong relationships with customers and suppliers.

Work schedule will primarily be normal daytime business hours, Monday through Friday, with additional hours required as needed.

Travel:
This position will require weekly travel between both ND ethanol facilities along with travel to off-site events and/or meetings.  Most travel will occur during the day; limited overnight travel would be required.  This position’s main office could be at either the Spiritwood or Underwood location.

Minimum Qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s degree in business, ag economics, or related field; or equivalent combination of education and direct work experience
  • Three years of progressive experience in grain merchandising, grain purchasing, commodity risk management or similar applicable experience.



Preferred Qualifications:
The preferred applicant will have experience in the following areas:
  • Prior experience trading and managing risk in a grain processing setting
  • Prior leadership experience including directing or scheduling work
  • Proven skills understanding and executing futures, options and other derivative trades to hedge margins and manage risk
  • Experience managing inventory of high volume commodity production with limited on site storage
  • Ability to quickly build strong relationships with a large number of customers and suppliers
  • Knowledge of the ethanol industry and the local trade area for HLCP facilities
  • Experience with Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs)
  • Experience with Microsoft Outlook, Word, and Excel
